Amy + Will's Rustic & Charming Autumn Wedding

Amy + Will Tied the knot on a perfect Autumn day in September at a beautiful 13th century church, Kingston St Mary.

Amy - "I could never imagine getting married anywhere else – my parent’s house is called “Tower View” so I could literally see Kingston St Mary Church from the dining room table when I was growing up. It is a beautiful 13th century church steeped in history that is very close to my family’s heart.

The moment Will and I went to Midelney Manor for the first time we knew it was the perfect place for our reception; it is primarily a family home which makes it very warm and relaxing. The rustic Potting Shed, which housed the bar, had bags of character and the typically English walled gardens are a stunning backdrop for a marquee".

Amy chose a stunning full crepe gown by Mikaella. The gown was an Aline silhouette with dramatic 3/4 puff sleeves and a deep plunge neckline. The drama extended to the back of the gown with a long train, deep V back and buttons all the way from the waist to the train. We had a matching crepe bespoke belt made for Amy to enhance her waist.

Amy - "I found the idea of wedding dress shopping quite daunting because I'm not an avid ‘shopper’ but I had a very clear image in my mind of what kind of dress I wanted. Everyone kept telling me to “be open minded because you’ll never choose the sort of dress you expect!” But after dressing myself for 31 years and being very comfortable with my style I was confident I knew what would suit me. I’m an analytical person and I’d done a lot of research, but the two dress shops I visited before May & Grace didn’t provide anything I liked and left me feeling discouraged. May & Grace was a breath of fresh air – I could tell straight away that Emilie had read and taken on board my pre-appointment questionnaire answers and had five stunning dresses ready that perfectly matched the brief! Her patient, knowledgeable and calm approach alleviated my anxieties and I as soon as I tried on “the one” I knew it was right for me!"

How did you decide upon the dress that you chose?

"I wanted something elegant and timeless with the emphasis on the silhouette and fit of the dress. I wouldn’t describe myself as a glitzy person and wanted the dress to be beautiful in its simplicity without any lace or embellishment. My vision was an A-line dress with a V neckline and three-quarter length sleeves to compliment the Autumnal theme of our wedding. Mikaella style 2381 in beautiful crepe ticked all these boxes and more! I loved the structured, ruched shoulders, the buttons all the way down the train and a welcome surprise for the practical bride – pockets! The crepe fell so beautifully, was extremely comfortable and the addition of a belt helped to accentuate my waist to give me a lovely shape".

What was the favourite part of your dress shopping experience?

"My twin sister was supposed to come with me to pick up my dress but sadly she was unwell and couldn’t make the trip. I video-called her from May & Grace and the moment I saw her face on the screen I knew I’d chosen perfectly! A very emotional moment."

What shoes and accessories did you choose and why?

"I loved my veil because I thought the embroidered dots looked like falling leaves and the detail complimented how plain my dress was. My parents bought my earrings for me – the chunky gold hoops matched my wedding band and the pearl drop added a touch of sophistication. My shoes were incredibly comfortable and I kept them on all day and night!"

Did you have a specific colour palette or theme for your wedding day?

"Despite it being early September we went heavy on an Autumnal theme, with burnt orange bridesmaid dresses, gold accessories and the groomsmen in dark, rich green suits. We had a mix of dried and fresh flowers to match our colours; our florist put wheat in the arrangements which I loved and added to the rural feel of the day!"

How did you feel in your dress on your special day?

"I felt incredibly elegant but still very ‘me’ - everyone kept commenting how perfectly my dress suited me! Sadly with the autumn weather the train didn’t stay white for very long but I love that it tells the story of our day and we were having too much fun to notice. The skirt bustled beautifully so I could party the night away!"

What was your favourite moment of the day?

"Seeing Will’s face as I walked down the aisle with my dad, surrounded by all our family and friends, is a moment I will never forget."

Did you have a first dance?
